Pierre Brasseur (Matouba) finishes sixth

Pierre Brasseur (Matouba) finished sixth across the finish line at 03:27:44hrs UTC this Thursday morning. The skipper of the 2009 Owen-Clarke design took 17d14h27m44s to sail the 3542 miles from Saint Malo to Pointe a Pitre of the Route du Rhum Destination Guadeloupe. In fact he sailed 4333 miles at 10.26kts. His delta to Class40 winner Alex Pella is 20hrs40min36s and he is sixth subject to jury decisions

"Pierrot" has made a solid race as a rising star in an older boat, something of a surprise package given that he only really got into into the project about two months before the start. A successful Mini650 sailor with solid core skills he has always been in the peloton of the Class40 and proves a talent for the future. His Guadeloupe sponsor Matouba (bottled water) ensured he had a great welcome into Pointe a Pitre in the rain.

"What a welcome, I was told there was something planned and that was something. It has all gone so well for the last month really, the build up the start and now the finish. I did not necessarily expect to finish so far up the leadeboard but 6th is a good result for me. There was a bit of a break and some had to stop as well it was not easy but in the end I stuck at it and managed to get here. Each time I kept telling myself I am still here. In the end Alex Pella was away with himself, but the others were not so far in front. I am happy with myself. It was not easy in the Trade Winds, complicated. Wind or no wind. It is often the south that pays but not so much. I had boats beside me and now they are 200 miles behind. It is hard because of the pace, the intensity. But the conditions were never really insane, not even at the start."
