Eighty five starters are now scheduled to answer Sunday's start gun.Eighty-seven entries are registered for this ninth edition of the Route du Rhum La Banque Postale, but in fact on Sunday when the start gun goes it will be 85 who set off heading for Pointe-a- Pitre in Guadeloupe. After the withdrawl announced yesterday of journalist-skipper Pierre-Yves Lautrou (L'Express-Sapmer) as a result of the collision with a fishing boat whilst on delivery to Saint Malo last week, unfortunately today the Dutch skipper Hubert Swets (AKA9 Fuji-Class 40) has also confirmed to the race direction that he will be unable to take the start. After a nasty fall in his cockpit he had hoped to make a fast enough recovery to start, but with broken ribs he has elected not to start.
