Trademark licensing involves a company (the trademark owner, or licensor) authorizing another company (the manufacturer, or licensee) to use its name or intellectual property such as a character, a design or, as in this case, a registered trademark (La Route du Rhum) on products or services.
In exchange, the manufacturer pays fees or royalties. This allows brands to expand their reach without manufacturing products themselves, and enables specialized manufacturers to leverage the power of an established brand. It's a win-win situation.
