On Thursday, November 5th at 10:07 PM UTC, while sailing in rough seas and in 5th place in the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe, Ambrogio Beccaria, skipper of the IMOCA Allagrande Mapei, fell heavily in his cockpit. Suffering from severe back pain, he consulted with the race doctors before making the difficult decision to end his race. He is now heading towards the Azores, where medical attention will be arranged upon his arrival. The shore team remains in contact with him and is preparing to meet him there to welcome him and organize the boat's return.
